Paid Clinical Trials: Frequently Asked Questions

Thinking about joining a paid clinical trial? Here are answers to the questions we hear most often. If you don’t see your question, call us at 951-778-1131.

1. What is paid clinical research, and who is Probe Clinical Research?

Clinical research studies help evaluate the safety and effectiveness of medications and treatments. Since early 2007, Probe Clinical Research has worked with many major pharmaceutical manufacturers and some of the world’s largest research firms to conduct these studies. People who take part in a paid clinical research study are compensated for their time and travel.

2. Will I be paid for participating, and how much?

Yes. Participants are compensated for their time and travel. Compensation varies according to the individual study, so please see each study’s page for its specific compensation details.

3. Does it cost anything to participate? Do I need health insurance?

Protocol-required study procedures, tests, examinations, and study treatment or medication are provided at no charge to the participant. Whether health insurance is needed depends on the individual study. Check the study page or ask our team when you apply.

4. How do I know if I qualify for a paid clinical trial?

Each study page includes a brief description and its application requirements. In most cases you can begin by filling out a screening application online. Additional information may be needed to confirm whether you qualify, and for some studies we may request a copy of your medical records from your doctor or hospital.

5. How do I apply, and what happens next?

Apply online using the screening form on any study page, or call 951-778-1131 to complete the application by phone. After you apply, your information is forwarded to our Clinical Research Coordinator and we will contact you. If the study appears to be a good fit and you are still interested, we will schedule an in-person appointment to help determine whether you can join.

If no current study fits you, see our Coming Soon Studies and Future Studies pages. In most cases you can submit a screening application for those as well.

6. What happens at my first study visit?

Before participating in a study, you will go through the informed consent process with the study team. You will review the Informed Consent document, which explains the study, what will happen during it, and its reasonably foreseeable risks and potential side effects. The examinations, tests and procedures that follow vary by study and are described on each study’s page and in its informed consent document.

7. Are clinical trials safe? What are the risks?

Every study is different. Before you decide whether to take part, the informed consent process explains the study, its procedures, and its reasonably foreseeable risks and potential side effects. You can ask the study team any questions you have before deciding whether to participate.

8. Can I stop participating once I’ve joined?

Participation is voluntary. You may choose to stop participating at any time.

9. How is my personal information handled?

Participant information is handled according to the applicable study privacy and confidentiality requirements. Information you enter in a screening application is used to determine whether you may qualify for a study. Certain information is required to qualify; if you choose not to provide it, we may be unable to qualify you for a study.
